Nanay

by Danilo Stern-Sapad

A heartfelt tribute (Nanay means 'mother' in Tagalog).

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Nanay, you worked so hard every single day, In the quiet morning light, you’d find a way. With gentle hands and a heart so true, Everything I am, I owe to you.

[Pre-Chorus] Through the trials and the tears, You held us close, chased away the fears. In your eyes, my dreams take flight, In your love, all wrongs turn right.

[Chorus] Nanay, my hero, my guiding star, In your embrace, I’ve come so far. You taught me to dream, to reach for the sky, With your strength and love, I’ll forever fly.

[Verse 2] You encouraged my hobbies, and fueled my ambition, Every word you spoke, a loving mission. In the darkest nights, you were the light, Nanay, with you, everything’s alright.

[Bridge] Your hands that shaped my world, Your voice, the sweetest song unfurled. With every step I take, you’re here, In my heart, you’re always near.

[Chorus] Nanay, my hero, my guiding star, In your embrace, I’ve come so far. You taught me to dream, to reach for the sky, With your strength and love, I’ll forever fly.

[Outro] Nanay, my hero, my everything, In your love, I’ve found my wings. Forever grateful, forever true, Nanay, this song’s for you.

About: A song I wrote for my mom’s birthday (August 21st). Nanay is the Filipino/Tagalog word for mother and what I grew up calling my mom even though it’s my dad who’s Filipino.
